Telugu film critic Mahesh Kathi is at the receiving end of hatred
from fans of actor-turned-politician Power star Pawan Kalyan. The 41-years-old
film critic, who has also been a filmmaker, writer, says he is a victim of organized
harassment and threats from thousands of so-called fans, who are angry about
what he had said in public on Pawan Kalyan's films, his political role and also
his party Janasena.
"I did not say anything
abusive or what can be considered improper. I was asked for my opinion on his
political foray and I answered honestly about what I thought,''. "Suddenly
the phone calls and messages started and that is when I realized that my phone
number had been shared on social media like Facebook fan pages and Whatsapp
groups, with the specific calls to target me.''
All this fuss started when
Mahesh made comments on Pawan kalyan choice of films, and his political career.
He said that he never considered Pawan as a star and that he was only taking
advantage of his fan base. He questioned how Pawan could contest in the
elections without any agenda. He criticized the actor-turned-politician for
being active only on Twitter and not doing anything constructively in reality.
Pawan kalyan is god to his fans but nothing to me, don't put him on my head
said Mahesh Kathi.
Mahesh says “I am what I am on my own. Not by nepotism. If you
questioned about my "status". I shall question back by asking, what
status? Social, political, economic or Academic? Mr. PK and his fans, be sure
what you ask for. My number did not stop ringing. Further, some fanatic fans
started targeting all the people who are supporting me online. They are being
sent abusive messages and threats. Because, PK fans associations have promised
to keep a tab on these things, I am on a hold. If this continues, ownership of
the result will be on PK and some of his fanatic fans. Sane fans...Swing in to
action or allow the damage to continue. Your wish.”
